Name: Mika Karimzadeh Maxwell [mee-KAH kah-REEM-zah-deh maks-well]
Alias: M.K., M&M
Age: 16
Grade: Junior
Weight: 143 lbs.
Height: 5’ 10”
Nationality: Canadian-American
Ethnicity: One-half Lebanese, one-quarter Native Canadian, one-eighth Japanese, one-sixteenth Russian, one-sixteenth Dutch
Hair: Once a pale blonde who kept her hair shoulder-length, Mika has since hacked it short (to about chin-length) and dyed it a deep black. Her ebony locks retain the silky softness of her blonde days. The length of her hair, however, causes it to be quite unruly, which is further contributed to by her lack of interest in maintaining her hair.
Eye color: A steely blue-gray, Mika’s eye colour fluctuates from a cold, metallic blue to a deep, piercing grey, depending on lighting and surrounding hues.
Appearance: Rather tall for a girl, Mika’s body, though it may possess its own unseen flaws, is perfectly proportioned and developed. Her long, shapely legs compose the majority of her height. Being a martial artist for the majority of her life, as well as her natural athleticism and participation in an abundance of sports has built and defined her muscles well, her abdomen and legs being the most impressive. Her curves aren’t the most voluptuous, but they are slightly above average. Mika looks at her chest with contempt as she feels they just get in the way of several things. Also, she likes to keep a minimal, but healthy amount of fat on her body.
Mika’s face is a neat heart-shape, with a small, somewhat curved and distinct nose and naturally pouted lips. Her eyebrows are naturally shaped, with a little plucking done to the ends. She rarely wears make-up, but when she does she keeps it to a minimum: mascara and lip gloss, if anything, are what she uses. There is a small scar above her left eye, extending through the eyebrow which was obtained from a tournament match. The undersides of her forearms are riddled with thin scars. Her skin is usually rather fair, but due to her training and activities her naturally creamy complexion has been lightly tanned to a delicate golden. Upon her left shoulder/upper-arm lays an intricate tribal tattoo.
Practical and comfortable are the words that come to mind when describing Mika’s wardrobe. Anything that can be slipped on with minimal effort is what a majority of her wardrobe consists of: tank tops, miniskirts, baggy sweats and cargos, hoodies and button-up shirts pretty much sums up her choice of clothing.
Personality: A soft-spoken individual, Mika prefers not to voice her opinions openly. That’s not to say she’s anti-social; she’ll converse easily with another if they choose to speak with her. Most people that know her, however, would rather not (speak with her) due to her snapping and bitter attitude. Not the most pleasant person to be around; definitely not a bucket of sunshine. Even if one does not know her they would be repelled by the natural expression of contempt present on her face most, if not all the time. Mika holds a penchant for fighting, and would jump at any opportunity to do so. She has something of a temper, but what triggers it is entirely situational.
Mika has trust issues, so attempting to pierce through the thick skin of her disposition would prove difficult. Impossible, even. If one ever manages to break through this barrier, they would witness the more feminine side of Mika, though her actions and words are still quick and impulsive, and at times brash. More friendly and talkative with less bitterness is evident when in the company of her friends, though she still isn’t the nicest or sweetest person. She’s also more willing to help those close to her, but not so much that she’d stick her neck out or sacrifice herself for them.
Mika’s hobbies include: volleyball, swimming, karate, full-contact sports, cooking, martial arts films, and skateboarding. Her voice is rather raspy, giving others the impression she is on the verge of losing her voice. It is also deeper than most females’, but still discernable from a male's.
She hates individuals who categorize all middle-easterners as potential terrorists, as her mother is from Lebanon and she is half Lebanese herself because of that.
History: Born in her father’s hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, her family moved to Hallen City, U.S.A. shortly thereafter, earning her a dual citizenship.
With aspirations of his son following in his family’s footsteps as national champions in Karate, Eric Maxwell was rather disappointed that his firstborn would be a female. However, he came to a realization and disregarded the gender of his child. As soon as Mika was capable of kicking, she was put under the personal tutelage of one of his close close friends, a fellow karateka and professional kickboxer. With her teacher being the descendant of samurai, not only was she taught Karate, she was tutored in the weapon art of kenjutsu. While his friend worked on her mind and body, Mika’s father, who was incapable of teaching her Karate himself (which he would’ve preferred) due to a permanent injury, would further expand upon the mental aspects of her martial arts training. By the age of fourteen, Mika became eligible for her first dan (degree) black belt, which she obtained with ease. Usually, practitioners under the age of sixteen are not eligible for their first dan, but Mika exhibited such exceptional talent that she was allowed to take her exam. Throughout the years following her graduation as a black belt she participated in several full-contact tournaments. Mika failed to bring anything less than first place to her dojo.
Throughout her life Mika had been athletic, and during her junior high years was fairly tall – as tall as or taller than most boys her age. This led her to become a natural superstar at girl’s volleyball. With Mika on their team, the junior high and high school volleyball teams would always bring home first place. She has brought home gold medals in several track and field events such as the one hundred-meter dash, shot-put, and high-jump, just to name a few. An outstanding athlete and above average in looks, she became very popular. Despite the fact that Mika was a tomboy, because of her blonde hair and popularity many criticized her of being a “Barbie girl”. Holding a strong disdain for such an image she promptly hacked her golden locks off and dyed them black. Her bright, sunshine-like hair would never be seen again.
During her junior year in high school Mika was involved in a fight and promptly expelled, regardless of her explanations. Her school was rather strict, and held no tolerance for ruffians who assault other students, despite the fact that she was a girl. Immediately she was scolded for her actions and beaten, though it did not faze Mika much since she was used to this type of discipline since she was a child. Her father explained that she couldn’t fall behind others not only in physical terms, but mentally, also. Enrolled in a new school to continue her education, she knew nothing of this... “Hallen High” she was about to attend.
When Mika turned sixteen she became eligible for her second degree black belt. With her combat experience she passed the ranking exam and obtained her second dan.
Fighting Style: Extremely hard, external style of karate: Kyokushin with influences from Goju-ryu (descriptions courtesy of Wikipedia). Mika also knows the weapon art of kenjutsu, which specializes in the use of the Japanese sword (katana).
Kyokushin kaikan is a style of stand-up, full contact karate. Kyokushinkai is Japanese for "the society of the ultimate truth." Kyokushin is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline and hard training. Its full contact style has had international appeal. Kyokushin has influenced many of the "full-contact" schools of karate, emphasizing realistic combat, physical toughness, and practicality in its training curriculum. The Kyokushin system is based on traditional karate like Shotokan and Goju-ryu, but incorporates many elements of combat sports like boxing and kickboxing in kumite. Many techniques are not found in other styles of karate. In this form of karate the instructor and his/her students all must take part in hard sparring to prepare them for full contact fighting. Unlike some forms of karate, Kyokushin places high emphasis on full contact fighting which is done without any gloves or protective equipment.
Gojū-ryū combines hard striking attacks such as kicks and punches with softer circular techniques for blocking and controlling the opponent, including locks, grappling, takedowns and throws. Major emphasis is given to breathing correctly. Goju-ryu practices methods that include body strengthening and conditioning, its basic approach to fighting (distance, stickiness, power generation, etc.), and partner drills. Goju-ryu incorporates both circular and linear movements into its curriculum.
Strengths: Mika possesses an enormous amount of strength, impressive even for males much larger than her. Her strikes are severely devastating. Often one strike will be detrimental enough for even the hardiest of fighters to falter for a significant amount of time. This strength also applies to her vice-like grip. One would be hard-pressed to escape her grasp, and would find her iron grip rather painful, more than it should be. Bruises are almost always left where her fingers once were. With strength as her most outstanding asset, her almost inhuman pain threshold and monstrous amount of stamina gained from years of body conditioning and full-contact sparring would be a close second. Mika’s knuckles, hands, forearms, shins and instep are completely numb to pain. With an innate ability for karate (and martial arts in general) and several years of experience, Mika has a great deal of instinctual perception; feints fail to go unnoticed. She has also learned not to be optically dependant, and is capable of fighting without the use of her eyes with little hindrance.
Weaknesses: Mika lacks the dexterity and elusiveness of many fighters. That's not to say she's a sloth; she could be considered "above average" in the speed department. This lack of flexibility, however, prevents her from preforming acrobatic techniques. She’s rarely aggressive in a fight, preferring not to initiate as she is a defensive fighter. Due to the conditioning she does on her limbs, she has a habit of cracking her stiff joints in order to relieve the stress put on them. This causes joint locks to become slightly more painful than usual to her. Mika is pretty close-minded about martial arts, and feels that karate is “the best”, keeping her from opening up to other styles and assimilating them.
