Age: 15 and 2/3
Grade: Sophomore
Weight: 155
Height: 5'9"
Nationality: American
Ethnicity: English/Irish and Korean
Hair: Ralph’s hair is medium length and is kept out of his eyes by a blue head band. It is light brown to dark brown at its roots and is very straight. His hair is kept pretty short from his regular number of hair cuts. Due to the headband his bangs have a tendency to stick upward away from his head. The front of his hair sort of parts at the middle naturally since Ralph can’t bother himself with combing his hair.
Eye color: Light Brown
Appearance: Ralph wears a variant of the Gakuran or Japanese School Uniform for males. It was black, but from the amount of times it has been washed it is now more of a grey color. Oddly it isn’t splotchy or discolored it is now just a solid grey. It is buttoned down the middle with a lacing of white material along the area the button and collar connects. He wears a light blue headband around his forehead that seems to be worn from use. His build is lean and muscular because of the demanding style of his discipline. He doesn’t look particularly muscular because of how his long sleeves and long pants cover most of his body. Most people just see a skinny person when they look at him.
Personality: Ralph has a general disliking of the student body. He doesn’t feel any real desire to interacting with his peers. He rarely smiles and when he does it normally means he’s doing something physical like playing a sport or beating a student’s face in. Not particularly inclined to fight Ralph will mostly keep to himself unless spoken to or interacted with in some fashion. Ralph isn’t a cold person, just prefers to listen rather then speak. What goes on at the school doesn’t interest Ralph unless it affects him directly. Perhaps since Hallen High is a new school he’ll become more interested with the politics he so quickly turned away at his previous school. Ralph had always been an intelligent student, but school never really interested him. Teachers normally complain to him about how he has such high test scores, but does almost no work. Ralph doesn’t enjoy hurting people, but the act of fighting is quite fun for him. He judges people by their actions because words don’t really mean anything to Ralph. Most people leave a general bad taste in Ralph’s mouth so to speak causing him to dislike initiating any form of interaction with his fellow students.
Ralph tries to stay low-key. He is a calm, cool, collected person who rarely rushes into anything. Both in his martial arts and his day to day life he is patient and well balanced. He tends to follow a pattern in his day to day life trying whatever he can to keep from being bored. He is a quiet person and has been known to tell a good joke every so often. He dislikes to hear complaining, but he does have the capacity to be sympathetic and kind. All in all he rarely shows his emotions. Ralph avoids conflict and works well under pressure. Whenever possible he tries to find the easy way to a situation.
As a friend Ralph is easy to get along with. He's a good listener, though he doesn't talk much. When he does speak he's inoffensive, and he enjoys watching people. When he can he avoids responsibility, but has a quiet will of iron. Sometimes discouraging other because he doesn't like how people normally speak or act towards him. Some say he lacks self-motivation, When possible he stays uninvolved. He isn't the most exciting person to talk to, and he is normally indifferent to things people plan to do.
History: Ralph was born an only child. He grew and seemed to dislike speaking even in his younger years leading his parents to believe that there might be something wrong with him. They took him to physicians, specialists, and even physiologists. The only thing their battery of tests was able to uncover was that Ralph was above an average intelligence. His parents were glad that their son was health and fine and Ralph later forgave them. But, it sort of gave Ralph a general dislike of how people couldn’t possibly handle anyone being different in anyway and school didn’t help.
As Ralph began school he realized that the students didn’t seem to like a person who was quite and kept to themselves. Those that didn’t out right try to reject him found a strange attraction gain a few good friends through his elementary career. The classes were so easy it was almost a joke for Ralph and he spent most of his days just daydreaming because he lost all interest in the material. A few students were envious of how Ralph was a top student in every subject and tried to get at him anyway they could. Some even feared him because of how he never spoke about himself or talk at all for long periods of time. They did juvenile things like spill food on him to violent things like physically attacking him.
Time went on and Ralph seemed to get more bored with school now a fourth grader. Students attacking him increased to such a high number a times on a weekly bases that he was suspended many times from school for the number of fights he got into. That fact that he always kept coming at his opponent regardless of how bad he was hurt, lead some students to believe that he wasn’t entirely human. Ralph’s father sought out the help of a close friend. He felt that Ralph was fighting too much and needed some sort of instruction or discipline when it came to fighting. His close friend was a teacher and practitioner of the Korean martial art known as Hapkido. Ralph’s father asked what he should do about his boy and hid friend said that he should become a student of Hapikido. He valued his friend’s opinion, thus allowing or more forcing Ralph to partake in martial arts training. Surprisingly this was the first thing his parent did right. Ralph enjoyed the training and became more open and talkative while at the school.
More school and more fights, but Ralph became stronger and stronger. Soon he was able to just ignore those still ignorant to fight him for no reason or if he felt like it beating them to a bloody pulp. Middle School went by in a blink and soon Ralph was entering high school. They school had a uniform code and strict policies about fighting. Meaning that anyone how fought normally got kicked out of the school. The vicious cycle repeated itself and it took less then a year for him to be expelled from the school for “defending” himself. Oh well, Ralph didn’t like the place much anyways. By fate or chance he was sent an invitation to attend school at Hallen High.
As boring as school was Ralph didn’t have much to do at home so, he accepted without much thought. What will happen doesn’t really concern him just as long as it’s interesting.
Fighting Style: Hapkido is made up of many techniques. It focuses on joint locks, pressure points, throws, kicks, and other strikes. Training in Hapkido prepares the user to counter the techniques of many other martial arts as well as the more common “unskilled” attacks. There is also a range of traditional weapons included in the style, such as short stick, cane, rope, sword and staff which vary in emphasis depending on the particular tradition examined.
Although Hapkido uses many long and close range fighting techniques, the main purpose of most attacks is to get near for a close strike, lock, or throw. Hapkido is founded on techniques that use circular motion, non-resisting movements, and control the opponent. Those trained seek to gain advantage through footwork and body positioning to employ leverage, avoiding the use of strength against strength. Hapkido is a Korean martial art, and combines techniques from Karate, Aikido and Judo. Though similar the moves are not exactly the same.
Ralph usually doesn’t feel inclined to attack anyone, but there is even so much this almost emotionless fellow can ignore. Depending on his mood, which is normally apathetic, tends to influence how he uses his style.
Strengths: A skilled fighter from both training and practice, he is a formidable opponent. He attempts to avoid the idiots of normal day life, but sometimes you just have to beat a lesson into people. He will use locks, pressure points, throws, kicks, and other strikes such as punches to his advantage in a fight. He is cunning, normally setting traps and counters that boast of his strategic ability. Ralph has an almost uncanny ability of feeling out his opponents moves. He is a balance of being fast and strong.
Weaknesses: He can’t fight punch for punch like other fighters because he isn’t purely focused on strength, speed, or endurance. Getting damaged in a high amount causes him to lose his calculating control of his mind. This is bad because his main edge is taking his opponents moves and using them against them. His overall lack of great physical strength makes him no stronger then your average fighter. Due to this he can't overpower other combatants with strength alone.
